Superheroes! They have passion, they have swag, and they don’t always wear their undies over their tights!
Meet our No Nasties superheroes, living right amongst us mere mortals and just happening to go about their heroic business in fairtrade, organic style. We love our community and want to celebrate all you amazing people doing awesome things in your cotton capes! (Ahem, or tees, skirts, dresses…)
Our spotlight today is on the most excellent Shawn Rodrigues of Bean Me Up here in Goa! Longtime friend of No Nasties, we love Shawn, we've loved eating his delicious food for years, and now we really love occupying a little corner of the beautiful leafy Bean Me Up grounds with our Pop-Up Shop that's been open all season!
Hi Shawn! What are you famous for? Tell us more about yourself!
I’m famous for serving yummy food which happens to be vegan. And people are quite surprised by that. But yeah, it’s true.
I have a restaurant called Bean Me Up and we think we make amazing vegan food. We were the first vegan restaurant in Goa (maybe even India).
About 9 years ago I became vegan. I was involved in lot of animal activism, doing volunteer work for an animal welfare organization. While doing that becoming vegan made the most sense to me.
Name 3 nasties that you'd like to get rid of in the world?
1. Animal farming.
Growing animals so that they can be slaughtered for human consumption.
We’re living in an age in which we’re just hoarding stuff, buying it because it’s cheap and don’t end up paying the real intrinsic value of the product.
3. Unsustainable urban lifestyles.
Big cities are an unsustainable living space anyways. It creates stress for the people and on the environment.
Why No Nasties?
The fabric is amazing. It really feels good on the skin. Also, it feels good to support a brand that is fairtrade and organic. And therefore you are supporting responsible living. Fairtrade and organic shouldn’t be a niche. Conventional production shouldn’t be an option in the future. The fact that it is an option shows that something is entirely wrong with how we’re living right now.
Thanks, Shawn! We consider ourselves super lucky to work alongside someone so passionate about the world we live in. Guys, go to Bean Me Up immediately. Pina colada raw vegan cheesecake. Need we say more?!
Shawn is pictured being extra heroic in our Oxford Henley which has since sold out - but check out the same awesome cut still available in other shades and stripes!
