Superheroes! They have passion, they have swag, and they don’t always wear their undies over their tights!
Meet our No Nasties superheroes, living right amongst us mere mortals and just happening to go about their heroic business in fairtrade, organic style. We love our community and want to celebrate all you amazing people doing awesome things in your cotton capes! (Ahem, or tees, skirts, dresses…)
Our Superhero spotlight today is on Jen Barron from jenbarronYOGA. She is bold enough to believe that transformation can happen by engaging with people through YOGA, ADVENTURES, EVENTS, CONVERSATIONS, LOOK or all of the above. Each of these areas has its own vision but is an extension of her core vision: loving transformation.
Hi Jen! Thanks so much for talking with us today. Why No Nasties?
I chose to use No Nasties because of their business ethos. This is aligned with my own values and beliefs and I wanted to work with someone in India who aligned with that. As a business or organization, to give or sell products that aren’t aligned with who you are, sends mixed messages. These subliminal messages are as equally as important as standing up in front of a crowd and saying we should save the planet.
No Nasties was also very open in working with us on some new design ideas. Sangam introduced the concept of free sizing as a part of their Free Being Me body confidence project. Instead of being defined as a Small, you are Incredible! For jenbarronYOGA, we choose yoga asanas to represent sizing, you aren’t an Extra Large, you are Savasana! We don’t want people labeled by a number or a letter. No Nasties was willing to work with us and create our sizing within their existing labels and we couldn’t be happier with the result!
Why are you a No Nasties Superhero? AKA what is your passion?
My passion is for transformation, the transformation of individuals, the communities in which we live and the world. Changing the world and making our own communities better can only happen though transformation of individuals. I’m aware of my own transformation and the transformation of others.
And how do you encourage transformation?
I manage an international training centre that is part of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts called Sangam World Centre in India. We are running programs designed specifically to engage our members in becoming agents of change in our world. This is why we exist. We don’t want to make change just in India. We want to make change in individuals. Then they are empowered to make change in their own communities and all around the world.
I also have my own yoga business called jenbarronYOGA. I’m using the tool of yoga for transformation.
What are your 3 Nasties that you’d like to get rid of in the world?
-Plastic shopping bags
-Bullying and harassment of people
-Lack of access to sustainable alternatives e.g. plastic straws
Thanks so much for taking the time to talk with us! How can people engage with jenbarronYOGA?
All of my information is on my website, which you can check out at jenbarronyoga.com. I am also running an ADVENTURE in Madagascar, called Come to Your Senses, in July of this year (2018). Or you can join in my element…, in India this September.
